Trinity Street aerial view

Once again, this 1938 aerial view gives us so many aspects of Coventry's past to look at from an elevated position. The main feature on display is the newly built Trinity Street, including a shy Owen Owen's store trying to hide behind the tower of Holy Trinity church. So much was new back in that year, and the 'New' Hippodrome in the background had just taken over from the then recently demolished 'Old' Hippodrome.

Of course, before these new features were three years old, much of the surrounding landscape changed forever, although, with the exception of Owen Owen, most of the newer buildings here in Trinity Street escaped total destruction.

From the above scene comparison (clicking the image will swap it for a 2009 view), perhaps one of the saddest changes is the almost complete dissapearance of the original Bishop Street, with many residential properties and shops not surviving the WWII air-raids.
