The original pool here was a mill pool serving a mill which operated for centuries until ceasing use in 1889.
In 1909 the area was turned into a recreational park, including a bandstand which was eventually removed in 1963.
The first photo on the right shows the still new park in 1910, and below that is the view in winter, February 2006. With the trees and shrubs still looking bare, and the pool drained, presumably for cleaning, my modern-day view isn't very flattering - but it's still quite a pleasant place to take a stroll.
The next photograph, below, was taken in 1919, and shows an obviously popular place for locals from the city centre and Radford areas.
