Broadgate from Holy Trinity Church

Camera No. 57

2012 has brought about a few changes to this central area of our town centre. Traffic has now disappeared from the top end of Trinity Street and Broadgate altogether, with the new space in front of Holy Trinity Church being grassed over and bench seats provided, bringing an open, pleasing look to the street. Broadgate has been fully paved, which, although looking rather bland when empty, does provide a useful area for the staging of local events and market stalls.

The views of Coventry people seem to be mixed, mine included. It's definitely an improvement on the dreaded 'tent' that we had to endure for nearly two decades, and it appears that Cathedral Lanes is here to stay, albeit in an altered state if rumoured plans are carried out, but perhaps a touch of landscaping wouldn't go amiss to break up the uniformity. I guess there's some way to go yet.

You might also wish to compare this with a similar view from 1960 on Steve's website.
