44 Chapter 9: 13 years oldOn about the third night, all the cadets were asleep in their billet. In the early hours of the morning they were awakened by the shouting and screaming of the cadets from another A.T.C. squadron who were also staying at the camp. They ran around the billet making a lot of noise and throwing paper around and then left. Not only being rudely awakened, the cadets from 8F then had to clear the billet up ready for their morning inspection. They all vowed revenge!!!! Map reading, assault courses, more swimming and another 50 rounds on the .303, it was a week to remember. It was also the only time in his life that the child got to walk (twice) over the ST. ANDREWS golf course. Mainly because the cadets missed the "buzz", and had to walk back to the camp, about four miles. On the last night at the camp the cadets all went to bed early but were all back up by 3am. Time for revenge!!! Going to the other cadets billet they checked that the front and back door was open, for they needed a quick getaway. Screaming in from the front door the cadets from 8F charged through the billet hut, overturning all the cupboards, tables, chairs along with every bed with a cadet in it. Leaving the bed on top of the poor cadet. Straight through the hut they charged and out through the back door and back to their own billet. Barricading the only door into their billet, 8F slept soundly for the rest of the night. It must have taken the other cadets the rest of the night to clean up for their own inspection, revenge was sweet.... The next day was breakfast and a packed lunch to take with the cadets for their journey back to Coventry. What a great week it had been for all. |
