Chapter 1: A Child is Born (20-01-1948)

30 Lower Ford Street

A long time ago in a place called Coventry, a child was born. At 30 Lower Ford Street it was. With a star shining through the window (street light really), his name was to be J.C. (not to be confused with Jesus Christ, but John Collins). His mum 5ft nothing, the child 3ft, 12lb he was.
As he bounced across the floor, the cry went up "THANK GOD FOR THAT". Laid in a crib to sleep his parents soon realised he was to be a night shift worker!
The next day sitting at the breakfast table, he was told "No bacon and eggs for you son, it's porridge". So porridge it was until he grew teeth. The child did not know what happened in the first three years, it passed in a blur. The one thing the child does remember is the happy times of eating his porridge and slowly revealing the rabbits running around his dish, he had this dish for years.

As he grew older he honed his skills, lock picking for one. This kept him well served for years. Other parents kept their children locked in, my parents kept me locked out. With daring and skill the coal hole was the first means of entry. This lasted for awhile until they realised why I was always covered in coal dust and of course always being in the house first. They chained down the grating.
Finding other means of entry he climbed onto the rear wall then across the shed, up and over the toilet roof, then with lock picking skills through the bedroom window. This means of entry was to last a long time (no more coal dust clues).
